Almost half of adult citizens drink coffee more than once a day. The main number for which it is reaching for coffee is its taste and a stimulant effect thanks to the caffeine contained in it.
The most expensive coffee
The most expensive coffee is Kopi Luwak. Coffee that includes partially digested coffee cherries, eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphrodites). Fermentation occurs as the cherries pass through a civet's intestines, and after being defecated with other faecal matter, they are collected, the price is 1000 € per kilogram.
International Day of Coffee
The international day of coffee is relatively new. ICO (International Coffee Organization) decide to create an international day of coffee at 29 September. First day of coffee was in Mediolan at 29 September 2019, on EXPO.
Health benefits of drinking coffee:
1. Coffee is an important element of atherosclerosis prevention.
Studies have shown early signs of atherosclerosis occur in people who don't drink a normal coffee or consume over 5 cups.
2. Prevents the development of Alzheimer's disease.
Researchers suggest that drinking coffee regularly can reduce the risk of this condition by around 30%
3. Reduces the risk of stroke.
Women consuming a minimum of one cup of coffee a day have a significantly reduced risk of stroke compared to those who have avoided coffee. The risk reduction varies between 22 and 25%, which was reflected especially in ischemic stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
4. Reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
A cup of coffee also reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, regardless of aggravating factors such as obesity and lack of physical activity. This is because coffee improves glucose metabolism, which increases the body's sensitivity to insulin, i.e. reduces insulin resistance.
5. Healthy coffee rich in antioxidants
A cup of real black coffee has more antioxidants than orange or grapefruit juice. Antioxidants slow down the aging process by stopping the oxidation process in our body cells.
6. Prevents accidents and also helps in learning.
Coffee has also been proven to reduce mortality in accidents, which is associated with better blood flow by improving alertness, mating and perceptiveness.
