Four different method to drink of coffee at home

visibility1924 Views list In: Coffeemakers

The coffee machines with capsules as Nespresso they had a great success because they are cheap small and easy to use at home or into the workplace.  However, they are not the only coffee machine that exist: there are also those that go to pods (which have paper filters instead of plastic and aluminum)

and those called “automatic”, which directly grind the roasted coffee beans. There are also the electric coffee-makers, and the timeless mokas that are the easiest way to have Italian espresso at home. We have tried automatic coffee machines, coffee machines with capsule, electric coffee-makers and coffee-makers to give you the knowledge to better choose the perfect solution for your home. But also to save money, produce less waste and drink a better coffee, and even for have creamy cappuccinos.

In office, we have been using a capsule machine for at least five years, some of our colleagues have recently raised the question of the environmental and economic sustainability of this situation.

The capsules are in fact difficult to recycle, unless you buy those made to be compostable, but they still have a single wrapper. Pods are a bit cheaper and compostable, but they are less effective in preserving the aroma. This is why the apparently more advantageous alternative, if you are able to amortize the initial expense, are the automatic machines that make the coffee starting directly from the beans. The cost is higher than for capsules, but you will save on the purchase of coffee in the long run. Comparing

On the other hand, comparing them with the coffee makers, leaving aside the themes of the taste of coffee, they have the characteristic distinction that could be interpreted, by some as an advantage but by others as a disadvantage, of the ease way which they brew the coffee. With the capsule machine it’s easier have coffee so maybe you'll drink more. If we want to drink a coffee in the morning with the machine off, it takes from 30 to 50 seconds, depending on the type of machine, to reach the brewing temperature and another 30 seconds to have the coffee in the cup. As for the moka we calculated that it takes about 60 seconds to put the water into the boiler and the coffee into the appropriate filter. Depending on the size of moka from 2 minutes with a moka of one cup, to 5 minutes with a moka from 9 cups to brew coffee.

We need to consider, for a matter of both aroma and health, that many people do not consider that coffee machines are entirely made of plastic parts inside, and all this plastic comes into contact with boiling water. Some studies of sector detect the presence of substances harmful to the body that are released by the plastic in the water and subsequently in the coffee, although the manufacturers certify the use of food-materials that should not release particles. This problem is completely absent in coffee makers, but is even accentuated in capsule machines as it has emerged from other studies that even the capsule in contact with boiling water releases other harmful substances. We have tried the product most sell on Amazon referred to this 4 different method to obtain coffee and cappuccino.

Inissia Nespresso + Aeroccino (120,99 €; 520 PLN)

                                       inissa.jpg

Small, compact, in different colors and easy to use. To turn on, off, select the type of coffee, espresso or long, use the same two buttons. It is completely made of plastic, including the handle to raise and lower to insert the capsule into the compartment. On the other hand, it is heated in 30 seconds and both the canister and the drip tray can be removed for periodic cleaning. FLOW STOP is the option that brings it together with the best performing models: Nespresso Inissia, in fact, can automatically deliver the quantity of coffee you have previously programmed.

The positive notes of this machine are the small size, the ease of use and the capacity of 10 used pods of the special container. Instead, we found the noise in the coffee brewing as a negative aspect, the loss of water from the spout and a general fragility of the plastic elements. As for coffee, we noticed that the first coffee is not at the temperature of an espresso at bar and the taste of coffee did not enthuse our colleagues.

Let's move on to cappuccino, the aeroccino has modern and simple pleasant shapes, and thanks to the use of heat-resistant materials it allows to grasp the mount even when it has just completed a heating cycle of the milk.

                                                    aeroccino.png

Aeroccino is intuitive and easy to use but it does not have the possibility to select the temperature of the heated milk or of the foam which is a bit surprising in light of the high price. Negative aspect is the possibility of making only two cappuccinos per cycle. Aeroccino cannot be washed in washing machine and needs to be washed after each use by disassembling and reassembling all the parts of which it is composed.

Delonghi Esam 2600 (268 €; 1152,4 PLN)

                                               esam2600.png

It is the most sold automatic coffee machine on Amazon and has over 270 very good reviews, but in our office it was not particularly successful. After all the tests, only one colleague was unbalanced in favor of this machine.

                                              dfdfd.jpg

It must be said that it is the only one coffee machine of which we have not observed any water leaks before and after coffee is dispensed and also for this reason it must be taken into consideration. Among the positive aspects we have highlighted are the two knobs to adjust both coffee length and intensity precisely.

                                              gdsgs.png

The milk to make the cappuccino is little foamy and after a while the steam seems to come out empty and the final aspect seems the least inviting of those we have tried.
The disadvantage of automatic machines is that they are more bulky than the capsule coffee machines and coffee-makers (they are about 40 cm high, 25 and 35-40 wide) and weigh more (between 7 and 10 kilos), so make sure before buying one to have the right space in the kitchen and that it is close to a socket (the cable of the machine is quite short, also for the capsules ones).

Among the advantages, however, is the fact that you can make more drinks in addition to espresso: American coffee (the preparation is the same as espresso, but is lengthened with hot water), macchiato and cappuccino with so much foam (the milk is assembled and added to the coffee manually afterwards, the machine does not do it).

Miss Moka Prestige Electro (44,31 €, 190,53 PLN)
Piardi Milk frother (12 €, 51.6 PLN)
Grinder (30 €, 129 PLN)

Among the best-selling electric coffee makers on Amazon, the Forever Prestige Electro is the one that most impressed us. Classic design of a coffee maker that rests on the base that allows you to heat the moka to get coffee. Simple and easy to use thanks to the unique On / Off button.

                                                  12-07-021.jpg

Coffee brewing is as simple as that of a normal coffee maker, you can get 3 or 6 cups of coffee, adjusting the amount of water in the boiler, where the levels to reach are easy visible. The funnel is equipped with a practical reducer to easily put the right amount of coffee (3 or 6 Cups).

The waiting time for coffee is certainly longer than the capsule coffee machine and the automatic one.  When the brewing of coffee is finished the coffee maker automatically turns off and activate the function for maintaining the coffee temperature that will automatically turn off when the moka is lifted. It is possible to use already ground coffee or you can grind coffee with one of the electric coffee grinders that we have viewed on Amazon, which have a price ranging from € 25 to € 35.

As for the cappuccino we combine the Prestige Electro moka with the Piardi Home creamer entirely made in Italy, with food-grade aluminum coated with non-stick to prevent the milk from sticking, entirely in black color.

                                                   milkfrother.png

Available in two sizes depending on your needs to get 3 cappuccinos or 6 cappuccinos. The milk whisk is equipped with a double whip with a very thick mesh to obtain a creamy and soft foam. The time required to make the foam varies slightly depending on the number of cappuccinos you want to make, but while the moka brew the coffee you can easily prepare the foam.

In the office we noticed that the cappuccino most appreciated and voted for, is the one made with the Piardi-Home manual milk frother, in the version with the electric moka and in the one with the traditional moka.

Among the traditional stainless steel coffee makers, one of the most sold on Amazon is the one produced by Pezzetti the Steelexpress, available in different sizes and colors. Usable on any type of hob, it has particularly impressed us with the quality of the finishes and the taste of the coffee. In the office we experimented with 4 cups coffee maker.

                     steelexpresswebbottanio.png               steelexpresswhitewebb.png

It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to make coffee, depending on the time it takes to put water and coffee, we say that with the coffee maker ready in just over two minutes the coffee is ready. Obviously if we decide to grind the coffee at the moment, to be able to enjoy its aromas to the maximum, it will take a few more minutes. The office colleagues appreciated coffee with moka and cappuccino made with Piardi creamer, it seems we are turning the taste of our colleagues into the Italians one.

Our office tests on these 4 different methods of drinking coffee and cappuccino were highly appreciated and led to results that surprised us. Starting from the economic point of view as highlighted the cost of the capsule machine and the milk frother is on amazon at about 120 euros (516 PLN). We cannot use coffee beans and we must only use single-use capsule, so in addition to not having the maximum taste of coffee in the cup, we will have a strong environmental impact and a greater economic expense. On the base of the medium cost of the capsule on amzaon that is for a single coffe in 0.4 cents of euro per coffee, and over the course of a year calculating an average of 10 coffees per week, we will have 208 € cost of coffee per year (894.4 PLN) and total cost of 328 € (1410,4 PLN).

                                                 steelexpressgreenwebb.png

The fully automatic coffee machine has a much higher cost (268 €, 1152.4 PLN). In addition to occupying more space in our house, it has the advantage over the capsule machine of being able to use coffee beans, which on average costs € 13 per kg (about 0.09 € cent per coffee, 0.38 PLN) (55.9 PLN x kg) therefore a net saving on the single coffee and the possibility of having all the coffee aromas in your cup. Compared to the coffee maker, they have a much higher initial cost and according to our colleagues a less creamy cappuccino but the advantage of not having to use a hob. Over the course of a year we will have an outlay of 46,8 € (201,24 PLN) coffee cost per year, and total cost per year around 314.8 € (1353.64 PLN)

The electric moka as we have already explained above has the possibility of dispensing coffee even without the use of a hob, then excellent for home use less for office use. In our houses it offers the best of itself combined with the accessories we mentioned above. Analyzing the spending during the year we will have € 44 (189.2 PLN) of the cost of the moka 30 € (129 PLN) of electric coffee grinder and 12 € (51.6 PLN) of milk frother, for a total of 86 € (369 PLN), which added to the cost of coffee (46,8 €, 201,24 PLN) will lead us to an outlay of 132.8 € (571.04 PLN) annually.

                                                  steelexpresswebblillac.png

Finally, the traditional Steelexpress Pezzetti moka that is the most economical solution for use at home but difficult to use in offices. In our office we are equipped with hobs to be able to check and test all the new products that arrive but also to be able to check the products that encounter problems. So to the delight of our colleagues we were able to taste the aroma of the classic coffee of Italian houses, and we say that it was the most appreciated coffee and cappuccino in absolute as well as being the cheapest solution to buy. The cost of the Steelexpress moka is € 23 (98.9 PLN) plus 30 € (129.00 PLN) of coffee grinder plus 12 € ( 51.6 PLN) of milk. A total of 65 € (279 PLN) of equipment cost which added to the coffee reaches 111.8 € (480.74 PLN) per year.
